Can AI Replace Human Intelligence? What Students Should Know in the Age of AI

Artificial intelligence has moved from being something we mostly encountered in science fiction to becoming part of everyday life. Students can use AI to answer questions, write and edit content, create images, analyse information, solve problems and support research. With just a few prompts, tasks that once took hours can sometimes be completed in seconds.

This rapid growth raises an important question for students and educators: If AI can do so much, what should students learn that AI cannot simply do for them?

The question is bigger than whether AI can perform individual tasks. It is about what intelligence actually means. Can AI replace human intelligence, or will increasingly capable AI change what human intelligence needs to look like?
The answer begins with understanding the difference between producing an answer and truly understanding a problem, its context and its consequences.

What Does “Human Intelligence” Really Mean?
Intelligence is not simply about finding the correct answer. Human intelligence involves reasoning, understanding, curiosity, creativity and the ability to learn from experience.

Consider a student trying to solve a difficult problem. They do not simply need an answer. They need to understand why the answer works, identify what information matters, consider different approaches and decide which solution makes sense.

Human intelligence also includes qualities such as emotional intelligence, judgement and adaptability. A person can recognise when another person is confused, frustrated or excited. They can adjust how they communicate based on the situation. They can use past experiences to approach an unfamiliar problem.

These capabilities matter because real-world problems rarely come with perfect information or one correct answer. They require people to interpret situations, make choices and take responsibility for those choices.
That broader understanding of intelligence provides an important benchmark when we ask what AI can—and cannot—replace.

What Can AI Do Today?
Modern AI can perform an impressive range of tasks. Students can ask AI systems to explain difficult concepts, summarise lengthy information, translate languages, generate ideas, analyse data and create different forms of content.

AI can also support research and provide personalised learning assistance. A student struggling with a concept can ask for a simpler explanation, examples, practice questions or an alternative way of understanding the topic.

But there is an important distinction between performing an intelligent-looking task and possessing human intelligence.
AI can generate an explanation, but the student still needs to determine whether that explanation is accurate and whether they actually understand it. AI can suggest ideas, but deciding which idea is meaningful requires judgement. AI can provide information, but knowing which information matters—and what to do with it—is a human responsibility.

The more capable AI becomes, the more important this distinction becomes.

What Can AI Do Better Than Humans?
There are areas where AI has genuine advantages.
AI can process enormous amounts of information rapidly. It can recognise patterns across large datasets, perform repetitive tasks consistently and operate at a scale that would be difficult for an individual person to match.

For students, this can make learning more efficient. AI can quickly organise information, provide examples, generate practice material and help identify patterns or relationships within complex subjects.

These strengths should not be viewed as a threat. They are precisely what makes AI such a useful tool.
The important question is not whether humans can outperform AI at everything. They cannot, and they do not need to.

The more useful question is: What should humans bring to the process that AI does not replace?
What Still Requires Human Intelligence?
Some of the most important human capabilities are difficult to reduce to simply producing an answer.

Empathy, for example, involves understanding another person’s feelings and responding appropriately. Ethical decisions require people to consider consequences, fairness and responsibility. Creativity involves more than generating combinations of ideas; it can involve personal experience, imagination, purpose and context.

Imagine an AI system suggesting the most efficient solution to a disagreement between two people. The solution might appear logical, but resolving the situation successfully may depend on understanding emotions, relationships and circumstances that cannot be captured by a simple calculation.

Similarly, a student may receive several possible solutions to a real-world problem. Choosing the right one requires common-sense judgement and an understanding of the people and circumstances involved.
AI can support these processes, but students still need to bring their own judgement, creativity, experience and sense of responsibility to the table.

What Should Students Learn That AI Cannot Simply Do For Them?
If AI can increasingly help students find information, then education must focus on what students do with that information.
Students need capabilities that allow them to use, question and evaluate information intelligently.
1. Asking Good Questions
AI can answer questions, but students need to learn what questions are worth asking. A thoughtful question can uncover a problem, challenge an assumption or lead to an entirely new line of investigation.
2. Independent Reasoning
Students should develop their own conclusions rather than automatically accepting an AI-generated answer. They need to understand the reasoning behind an answer and be able to explain why they agree—or disagree—with it.
3. Communication
The ability to explain an idea clearly, listen carefully and persuade others remains essential. Even the best idea has limited value if a person cannot communicate it effectively.
4. Collaboration
Real-world problems are rarely solved alone. Students need to work with people who may have different perspectives, negotiate disagreements and build solutions together.
5. Judgement
Students must learn to ask: Does this information actually make sense in this context? An AI-generated response can sound convincing while still being incomplete, inaccurate or unsuitable.
6. Creativity
Students should generate, combine and develop their own ideas instead of simply asking AI to produce the final output. Creativity grows through experimentation, mistakes and revision.
7. Ethical Decision-Making

Students need to understand consequences, responsibility and fairness. They also need to recognise that the fact that technology can be used for something does not automatically mean it should be used for it.
The goal of education should not be to compete with AI at what AI does best. It should be to develop the human capabilities that make the use of AI meaningful and responsible.

Can AI Replace Teachers, Students or Learning?
AI may significantly change education, but that does not necessarily mean it will eliminate teachers, learning or human guidance.
An AI system can explain a mathematical concept, provide feedback on writing or generate practice questions. But learning is more than receiving information. Teachers can understand the needs of a classroom, recognise when a student needs encouragement, challenge a student’s assumptions and create opportunities for collaboration and discussion.

Students, meanwhile, cannot simply outsource the process of learning to technology. Getting an answer does not automatically mean understanding it.
AI may become an increasingly valuable part of education, but its greatest value may come from augmenting learning rather than replacing it.

The Risk of Depending Too Much on AI
The convenience of AI creates an obvious temptation: if a tool can do something for us, why do it ourselves?
But if AI consistently does the thinking, researching, writing and problem-solving for students, students may have fewer opportunities to develop those abilities themselves.

Overdependence can weaken independent thinking, research skills, writing, creativity, decision-making and confidence in expressing original ideas.
This does not mean students should avoid AI. It means they should use it deliberately.
The important shift is from asking “How powerful is AI?” to asking “How should I use that power intelligently?”

How Should Students Use AI Responsibly?
A useful approach is to think of AI as a partner in the learning process.
Use AI to:
1. Explore
Discover new ideas, perspectives and possibilities.
2. Explain
Ask for difficult concepts to be explained in different ways.
3. Compare
Compare viewpoints, arguments or possible approaches to a problem.
4. Challenge
Ask AI to identify weaknesses in an argument or question your assumptions.
5. Improve
Use AI to improve the clarity, structure or language of an idea you have already developed.
Don’t use AI to:
1. Think for you
Do not outsource your reasoning.
2. Replace research
AI-generated information should not automatically be treated as evidence.
3. Invent evidence
Never use AI to manufacture facts, sources, quotations or data.
4. Avoid learning
Getting an answer is not the same as understanding it.
5. Make every decision for you
Students need to develop and exercise their own judgement.
The simplest principle is this: Use AI as a thinking partner—not as a replacement for thinking.

AI Should Be a Tool, Not a Substitute for Thinking
There is a significant difference between using AI to learn and using AI instead of learning.

A student can use AI to explore different perspectives without allowing it to decide what they should believe. They can use it to improve an idea without handing over ownership of that idea. They can ask AI to identify questions they should investigate further rather than treating its first response as the final answer.

Used this way, AI can actually encourage deeper learning.
The objective is not to keep AI outside the classroom. It is to ensure that students remain active participants in their own learning.

Why Critical Thinking Matters More in the Age of AI
Critical thinking becomes even more important when information can be generated instantly.
Students need to question information, check evidence, identify weak arguments, compare viewpoints, detect errors and form independent opinions. They should also be able to explain and defend the conclusions they reach.
This is where activities such as debate and public speaking become especially valuable.
A debate does not allow students to simply repeat information. They must listen carefully, research a topic, analyse competing arguments, question assumptions and defend a position. They also have to respond when someone challenges their reasoning.
These are precisely the kinds of skills students need in an environment where AI can generate information faster than ever.

Why AI Is an Important Debate Topic for Students
AI presents students with a particularly interesting debate because there are strong arguments on both sides.
AI can process information faster, automate complex tasks and support learning in ways that were difficult to imagine a few years ago. At the same time, humans continue to bring creativity, empathy, judgement, experience and responsibility to situations.
Exploring both sides encourages students to listen, question, challenge, research, analyse and defend an argument rather than simply accepting the first answer they encounter.
Debating AI is therefore not only about predicting the future of technology. It is an opportunity for students to examine their own role in that future.

Questions Students Should Ask About AI

Can AI replace human intelligence?
AI can perform many tasks associated with intelligence, but human intelligence involves reasoning, judgement, creativity, emotions, experience and responsibility.

Can AI replace teachers?
AI can support teaching and learning, but human guidance, relationships, mentorship and understanding of individual students remain important.

Can AI replace creativity?
AI can generate creative-looking content and ideas, but human creativity involves intention, experience, imagination and personal perspective.

Can AI think independently?
AI can generate responses and identify patterns, but students should not assume that an AI response represents independent human-like thought.

Can AI understand emotions?
AI can analyse emotional cues and respond to them in useful ways, but this should not be confused with human emotional experience and empathy.

Should students use AI for schoolwork?
Yes, when it supports learning responsibly. Students should follow academic expectations and remain responsible for understanding and evaluating their work.

Can students become too dependent on AI?
Yes. If AI consistently replaces their own thinking, students may lose opportunities to develop important skills.

What skills will students need in an AI-driven future?
Critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, adaptability, judgement and ethical decision-making will remain essential.

Should humans control AI?
Human oversight and responsible decision-making are important, particularly when AI is used in situations that affect people.

How can students use AI responsibly?
Students should question AI outputs, verify important information, protect their own thinking and use AI to support—not replace—their learning.

The AI Debate Challenge

The ideas explored in this article become especially meaningful when students have the opportunity to discuss and challenge them in a real-world setting.

AI Debate Challenge
Topic: “AI vs Human — Who Wins?”
Vydehi School of Excellence, Bengaluru
Saturday, 26 September 2026
9:00 AM onwards
Vydehi School Auditorium
Age Groups: 5–8 years | 8–12 years
Event link

The challenge offers students an opportunity to move beyond simply learning about AI and engage with the questions it raises—using research, reasoning, communication and debate to examine both sides of the argument.

The Future May Need More Human Thinking, Not Less
AI will continue to become more capable. It will answer more questions, process more information and become a more powerful part of education and everyday life.

That makes human judgement, critical thinking and responsible decision-making more important, not less.
Students do not need to become better than AI at processing data or completing repetitive tasks. They need to become better at asking meaningful questions, evaluating information, understanding context, working with others, creating original ideas and making thoughtful decisions.

The future of learning is unlikely to be about choosing between humans and AI. It will be about understanding how the two can work together—and ensuring that technology strengthens human potential rather than replacing it.
The question for today’s students is not simply whether AI will replace humans. It is whether they will learn to use AI without allowing it to replace their ability to think.

What happens when a student asks AI a question and receives an answer before they have even finished thinking about it?

It feels wonderfully convenient. No endless searching. No staring at a blank page. No dramatic “I have absolutely no idea!” moment five minutes before homework is due.

But instant answers raise an important question: If artificial intelligence can provide information so quickly, does thinking become less important—or more important?

The answer is clear. In the age of AI, students need to become better thinkers, not simply faster information-gatherers.
The most valuable skill may no longer be remembering every fact. It may be knowing how to question information, examine evidence, compare perspectives and decide what to believe.

What Is Critical Thinking and Why Is It Important for Students?
Critical thinking is the ability to examine information carefully before accepting it or forming a conclusion.
For students, critical thinking means asking questions, looking for evidence, comparing different viewpoints and recognising when an argument is weak or incomplete. It also means being willing to change an opinion when stronger evidence appears.
A critical thinker does not disagree with everything just for the sake of it. Nor does a critical thinker accept every confident-sounding answer. Instead, they pause and ask:
•	Does this make sense?
•	What supports this claim?
•	Is anything missing?
•	What do I think—and why?

Critical thinking helps students make informed decisions in the classroom, online and in everyday life.

Why Does Critical Thinking Matter in the Age of AI?
Artificial intelligence can generate explanations, essays, summaries, images and ideas within seconds. However, speed does not guarantee accuracy.
An AI-generated answer may contain outdated information, miss important context or present one perspective as though it is the only one. It can also produce incorrect information in polished, confident language.

This gives students a new responsibility. They must learn to ask:
•	Is this information accurate?
•	Is the source trustworthy?
•	What evidence supports the answer?
•	Is there another point of view?
•	Could the response contain bias or an assumption?

UNESCO’s guidance on generative AI in education recommends a human-centred, age-appropriate approach to AI that supports ethical, safe and meaningful learning.
The easier information becomes to obtain, the more important it becomes to evaluate.
Getting an Answer Is Not the Same as Understanding It
Imagine a student asks AI, “Why do we have seasons?”

The tool provides an explanation. The student copies it into an assignment and moves on. The answer may be correct—but has the student understood it?

Now imagine a different approach. The student reads the answer, identifies unfamiliar words, checks the explanation against a science textbook, draws a diagram and then explains the idea in their own words.
The first student obtained information. The second student learned. The difference is the thinking that happened between receiving the answer and using it.

A useful learning process looks like this:
AI gives an answer → Student questions it → Checks it → Understands it → Forms an opinion
AI can shorten the journey to information. It should not remove the journey to understanding.

Five Ways Students Can Strengthen Critical Thinking
1. Ask “Why?”
Do not stop at the first explanation. Ask why something happens or why a particular conclusion has been reached.
If AI says electric vehicles are always better for the environment, ask: “Why?” Then consider how electricity is generated, how batteries are produced and how different vehicles are used.

2. Ask for Evidence
A strong argument needs more than confidence. Ask what facts, studies, examples or reliable sources support the claim.
If an answer says, “Most students learn better online,” ask where that information came from and whether it applies to all ages and learning needs.

3. Look at Both Sides
Every complex question has more than one perspective. Ask what someone who disagrees might say.
For example, AI can make learning more accessible and personalised. Another viewpoint may raise concerns about screen time, privacy, inaccurate information or reduced independent effort.

4. Verify Important Information
Compare significant claims with textbooks, credible websites, teachers or subject experts. This is especially important for health, safety, history, science and current events.
One quick answer should not become the final word.

5. Form Your Own Conclusion
Use AI-generated information as an input—not as a substitute for judgement.
After examining the evidence, ask: “What do I believe? Which reasons influenced me? Can I explain my conclusion clearly?”
The final opinion should belong to the student.

Seven Questions Every Student Should Ask Before Trusting an AI Answer
Before using an AI-generated response, students can run through this simple checklist.

1. Where did this information come from?
Look for the original source. An answer without a clear source deserves closer examination.

2. What evidence supports it?
A fluent response is not proof. Ask for facts, examples or research that can be independently checked.

3. Could the information be outdated?
Information about laws, technology, scientific discoveries, public figures and current events can change quickly.

4. Is there another point of view?
Ask how different people, communities or experts might approach the same question.

5. What assumptions are being made?
An answer may quietly assume that every student, family, school or country has the same needs and circumstances.

6. Can I verify it using another reliable source?
Check important claims against trustworthy publications, official organisations, books or a knowledgeable adult.

7. Do I agree with the conclusion—and why?
Students should be able to explain their own reasoning instead of simply repeating an AI-generated answer.

The question should never be only, “What did AI say?”
It should also be, “Why should I believe it?”

An Educator’s Perspective
“Children must learn not only how to use AI, but also how to question it. When they examine evidence, consider different perspectives and express their own conclusions, they become more thoughtful, confident and responsible thinkers.”
— Ms Ritu Sarvahi, Principal, Vydehi School of Excellence

Why Do Different Opinions Matter?
Critical thinking becomes stronger when students encounter opinions different from their own.
Listening to another viewpoint can reveal a weakness in an argument, introduce new evidence or challenge an assumption. It also teaches students how to disagree respectfully—an increasingly important skill both online and offline.
Changing one’s mind after examining better evidence is not a defeat. It is a sign that genuine thinking has taken place.
Debates, classroom discussions and public speaking activities help children listen carefully, respond thoughtfully and explain not only what they believe, but why they believe it.

Can AI Help Students Become Better Thinkers?
Yes—when it is used thoughtfully.
AI can help students explore a topic, simplify a difficult concept, generate alternative perspectives and suggest counterarguments. A student preparing a debate could even ask AI to challenge their position and point out weaknesses in it.
Research and discussion at the Stanford Graduate School of Education suggest that AI can support learning when students participate actively in shaping, questioning and evaluating its output.

A student might ask:
•	What is the strongest argument against my position?
•	Which part of my reasoning is unclear?
•	What evidence should I verify?
•	Can you explain this from another perspective?
AI can participate in the thinking process. But the student must remain the thinker—and the decision-maker.

A Critical Thinking Habit Students Can Remember
When an AI answer appears, use this five-step process:
ASK
What exactly am I being told?

CHECK
What evidence or source supports it?

COMPARE
What do other reliable sources and viewpoints say?

THINK
Does the information make sense? What might be missing?

DECIDE
What conclusion have I reached, and can I explain why?

Ask → Check → Compare → Think → Decide
It is simple enough to remember and useful far beyond AI. Students can apply it to news reports, advertisements, social media posts, classroom discussions and everyday decisions.
What Skills Will Students Need in an AI-Driven Future?

As technology handles more routine information-based tasks, distinctly human abilities become increasingly valuable.
Students will need:
•	Critical thinking
•	Curiosity
•	Creativity
•	Communication
•	Problem-solving
•	Adaptability
•	Ethical judgement
•	Responsible decision-making

The OECD AI Principles emphasise values including fairness, transparency, safety and accountability. Understanding AI is therefore not only about knowing how to operate a tool. It is also about recognising its impact and making thoughtful choices about how it should be used.
What Does This Have to Do With “AI vs Humans—Who Wins?”

“AI vs Humans—Who Wins?” is not a question with one easy answer. That is exactly what makes it a valuable debate topic.
To build a convincing argument, students must research AI, examine evidence, understand both sides, identify assumptions and decide which position they can support most strongly.

They may begin with one opinion and discover something that changes their mind. They may also learn that the strongest argument is not necessarily the loudest one—it is the one supported by clear reasoning and relevant evidence.
That is critical thinking in action.

The AI Debate Challenge
The AI Debate Challenge, hosted by Vydehi School of Excellence in Whitefield, Bengaluru, gives children aged 5 to 12 an opportunity to explore these questions through an individual public speaking competition.
Participants choose whether to speak for AI or against AI on the motion “AI vs Humans—Who Wins?” and present their independently prepared arguments before an audience and judging panel.

The competition will be held on Saturday, 26 September 2026, from 9:00 am onwards, at the Vydehi School Auditorium.

The Most Important Skill May Be Knowing What to Ask
Artificial intelligence can generate an answer in seconds. It cannot decide what a student should believe.

That requires curiosity, evidence, judgement and the confidence to think independently.
The AI era does not make human thinking obsolete. It gives students an opportunity—and a responsibility—to become more thoughtful about the information they receive and the decisions they make.
Because AI may be able to answer the question. But asking the right question, challenging the answer and deciding what to believe remain deeply human skills.

AI vs Human: Who Wins? What Artificial Intelligence Can—and Cannot—Do

Artificial intelligence can answer questions in seconds, analyse vast amounts of information and create text, images, music and code. But can it understand why a friend is upset? Can it make a difficult moral choice, take responsibility for the outcome or imagine a future shaped by personal hopes?

The question “AI vs Human: Who wins?” sounds simple, but the answer depends on what we mean by intelligence.

If intelligence is measured by speed, memory, calculation and pattern recognition, AI often has the advantage. If it includes empathy, judgement, lived experience, values, imagination and responsibility, human intelligence remains essential.

The real question, therefore, may not be whether AI or humans will win. It may be how intelligently humans choose to use AI.

What Is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence refers to machine-based systems that use data to generate outputs such as predictions, recommendations, decisions or content. AI powers search engines, navigation apps, voice assistants, recommendation systems, translation tools and generative platforms.

AI does not approach every task in the same way. Some systems are trained for a narrow purpose, such as identifying patterns in medical images or recommending a route through Bengaluru traffic. Generative AI can produce text, pictures, audio or code in response to instructions.

These systems can be remarkably useful. However, their outputs depend on their training data, design and the instructions they receive.
They can produce biased, incomplete or inaccurate results, sometimes in language that sounds highly convincing.

That is why AI-generated information must be checked rather than accepted automatically.

What Makes Human Intelligence Different?

Human intelligence involves more than retrieving information or recognising patterns. People interpret situations through experience, emotion, relationships, culture and values.

A teacher, for example, does more than explain a mathematical concept. The teacher notices when a child is confused, embarrassed or afraid to ask for help. They can change their approach, offer encouragement and understand the wider classroom context.

Humans can also consider what should be done—not merely what can be done. We make moral choices, understand consequences, accept responsibility and reconsider our decisions when circumstances change.

Where Does AI Perform Better?

AI is particularly effective when a task involves:
•	Processing large quantities of information quickly
•	Repeating clearly defined tasks consistently
•	Detecting patterns across complex datasets
•	Producing multiple options or initial drafts
•	Operating continuously without fatigue
•	Personalising recommendations using available data

A student might use AI to generate practice questions, simplify a difficult passage or suggest ways to organise a presentation. A doctor might use an AI-assisted system to identify patterns that deserve closer examination.

In both examples, AI can support the process. It should not automatically become the final decision-maker.

Where Do Humans Perform Better?

Human beings bring qualities that AI cannot reliably reproduce:

•	Empathy and emotional understanding
•	Ethical judgement and responsibility
•	Awareness of social and cultural context
•	Imagination shaped by lived experience
•	The ability to build trust and relationships
•	The wisdom to question whether a task should be done at all

Consider a child preparing a speech. AI can suggest arguments and improve sentence structure. But the child brings personal conviction, voice, humour, stage presence and an understanding of the audience. The most memorable part of the speech may be an experience that only the child can tell.

AI vs Human Intelligence: A Quick Comparison
Area	AI Strength	Human Strength
Speed	Processes information rapidly	Pauses to examine context
Memory	Stores and retrieves large amounts of data	Connects memories with meaning
Creativity	Generates combinations from learned patterns	Creates with intention and experience
Decisions	Applies patterns and defined objectives	Uses judgement, values and accountability
Communication	Produces fluent responses	Understands emotion, relationships and nuance
Responsibility	Cannot accept moral responsibility	Can explain, defend and own a decision

This comparison shows why declaring one universal winner is difficult. AI and human beings possess different kinds of strengths.

Is Knowing the Same as Understanding?

An AI system may provide a detailed answer about grief without having experienced loss. It may write a story about courage without ever feeling afraid. It can generate a persuasive apology without experiencing regret.

This distinction matters because fluent language can create the impression of understanding. A response may sound authoritative even when the underlying information is incorrect.

Students therefore need to ask: Where did this information come from? What evidence supports it? Is another perspective missing? Does the answer make sense in this situation?

According to UNESCO’s guidance on generative AI in education, AI should be used through a human-centred and age-appropriate approach that protects privacy and supports safe, equitable and meaningful learning.

Can AI Think Like a Human?

AI can perform tasks associated with thinking, including solving problems, producing explanations and comparing options. However, performing a cognitive task does not necessarily mean experiencing thought as a human does.

Current AI systems do not demonstrate human consciousness, emotion or lived experience. They generate outputs by processing inputs and identifying patterns. Humans interpret the world through bodies, relationships, memories, needs and personal histories.

The more useful question is not whether AI thinks exactly like a person. It is whether an AI system is appropriate, reliable and safe for a particular purpose.

Will AI Replace Humans?

AI is likely to replace or transform certain tasks, but that does not mean it will replace people in every occupation.

The International Labour Organization’s 2025 research found that job transformation is a more likely overall effect of generative AI than complete replacement because most occupations contain tasks that still require human involvement.

A journalist may use AI to transcribe an interview but still investigate the story and verify its claims. A designer may generate early concepts with AI but decide which idea meets a real human need. A teacher may use AI to prepare practice material while continuing to guide, motivate and understand students.

The future of work may belong neither to AI alone nor to humans who ignore it. It may belong to people who can use technology thoughtfully while contributing abilities that machines cannot supply.

The Strongest Case for AI—and for Humans

The strongest argument for AI is its scale. It can make information more accessible, accelerate research, support people with disabilities and help professionals identify useful patterns. Used responsibly, it can save time and expand what people are able to achieve.

The strongest argument for humans is purpose. People decide which problems matter, what outcomes are fair and which risks are acceptable. Human beings establish the values within which technology should operate.

The OECD AI Principles emphasise human rights, fairness, privacy, transparency, safety and accountability. Similarly, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework helps organisations consider trustworthiness and manage risks to individuals and society.
Technology can offer an answer. Humans must still decide whether it is a good answer—and what to do with it.

Children must learn not only how to use AI, but also how to question it. When they examine evidence, consider different perspectives and express their own conclusions, they become more thoughtful, confident and responsible thinkers.
Ms Ritu Sarvahi, Principal, Vydehi School of Excellence

The Better Future: AI Plus Human Intelligence
The most productive future is not necessarily AI against humans. It is AI working with humans under meaningful human direction.
AI can help students explore possibilities, but students must verify the information. It can suggest ideas, but children must develop their own voices. It can support decision-making, but people must remain accountable for important decisions.

This balance requires AI literacy: knowing how AI works, where it can fail, how data is used and when human guidance is essential. Children also need distinctly human skills—curiosity, creativity, empathy, communication and critical thinking.

Questions Every Student Should Ask About AI

✓ Is AI always correct?
No. AI can produce inaccurate or misleading information, so important claims should be verified using reliable sources.
✓ Can AI be creative?
AI can generate original-looking combinations from learned patterns. Whether this equals human creativity—with intention, emotion and lived meaning—remains open to debate.
✓ Should students use AI for schoolwork?
AI can support learning when school rules permit it and students continue to think, verify and create independently.
✓ Who is responsible when AI makes a mistake?
Responsibility remains with the people and organisations that design, select, deploy or rely on the system.

Bringing the Debate to the Stage
These questions form the heart of The AI Debate Challenge, an individual public speaking competition for children aged 5 to 12, hosted by Vydehi School of Excellence in Whitefield, Bengaluru.

Participants will choose a side on the motion “AI vs Humans—Who Wins?”, research their position and present a reasoned argument independently. The challenge encourages children to move beyond simply using AI. It asks them to question it, understand its opportunities and limitations, and express what they believe with clarity and confidence.

Explore The AI Debate Challenge

So, Who Wins?

AI wins at speed, scale and pattern processing. Humans lead in empathy, values, responsibility and meaning.
The future should not be decided by which side defeats the other. It should be shaped by people who understand what AI can do, recognise what it cannot do and have the judgement to use it wisely.

The ultimate advantage will belong to thoughtful humans who learn how to work with powerful technology -without surrendering the qualities that make them human.

If you are a parent already and reading this, you need not be told about the kind of stuff parents have to deal with day in and day out. May be some parents have kids who are easier to handle but most of us have been through tough times dealing with children, their moods, tantrums or meltdowns at some point or the other. With working parents it’s even more-harder because they aren’t really able to give their time to the kids which is of utmost importance. Additionally, if you have a child with special needs, he or she deserves double the attention and effort compared to their peer. It’s definitely an uphill task and more so a roller coaster ride. But, there are few things that parents of special kids should know for sure

You are Superhuman – You are the chosen one, being given a special task by the almighty, a task to raise children with special needs. Every day you have to work with child tantrums, meltdowns, give medication and at times take your child through medical procedures. While you do all this, you have to maintain your calm, stay sane, be patient and empathetic even though at times you could lose it all and this is not really human isn’t it? Well, so consider yourself a superhero and nothing less.

Therapy the play way – Often special needs kids do require therapy. But, when you find a therapist, find one who engages the child in a way that the child feels its play and not therapy. The best therapists are known to do so, make therapy play for children. Also, even when the kid is playing it is apparently therapy because, well, play is therapy. The kid explores, plays, learns, has fun and gets better

Spend quality time – Though you might be running tight on your daily routines and the added work that comes with raising a special needs kids, you need to find time where you simply sit down, enjoy and bond with your child. Keep aside all the tasks, and snuggle for a while, play with them, go for a walk or a hike, read with them, listen to music with them and just have quality family time. This is definitely going to help them feel more secure and

Take Care of yourself – You deserve self-care because you are already doing more and you would be doing so for a long time to come. This is definitely going to take a lot of energy and hence self-care is a priority too. If you are fit can you have that extra energy to take care of your child. So, take care of yourself, have some me time, go for regular health checkups, enjoy a hobby and stay fit.

Forgive yourself – You’re already on the multitasking drive and you are bound to create mistakes even though you try to give your best shot. So, when you end up doing a mistake, feeling frustrated or bad about it is not going to work or make you feel better or help make better decisions. So, try to be a little easy on yourself and forgive yourself when the need really be.

Well, these are only a few things of the many others that parents of special needs children need to keep in mind because they are running a different race from other peer parents.

If you put your children into the habit of reading bedtime stories through their infancy they are more likely to be avid readers because it’s likely to become a part of their lifestyle.

Once they are into the drill of hearing stories on a daily basis, they will want more and more. Well, that’s the magic of stories. But, while telling stories to your little ones, if you turn yourself into a story teller it surely makes a deeper connection. Just reading out a story is good but doing it with actions even better. The children feel connected and very much into the whole process. Well, additionally reading stories and that too loud comes with a lot of opportunities and benefits. Here’s run down a few of them.

Instills story reading – A daily dose of story reading can go a long way in forming a habit in your children and more so love for reading that they could carry along through their lives and never make them feel lonely.

Hones their Language skills – Reading helps in development and improvement of vocabulary and language skills. By the time they are around five to seven years, their mind is full of umpteen different words.

Helps talk on Sensitive Issues – As you get to spend more time with kids and bond with them, they tend to open up to you and it even makes way for talking on sensitive issues at school.

Bond as a Family – Reading every night to your child or children creates a culture where there’s dedicated time spend together as a family doing something. It also helps enhance and strengthen the bond.

Well, Albert Einstein has already made a point by saying “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.

As we step over into 2020, not only a brand new year but also a brand new decade, we’re all looking to make a fresh start and also work on things we’ve been wanting to but haven’t been able to for one reasons than many. Parenting is more of a process, a long and evolving one. So, this new season here are few tips on what you can change around your parenting skills

Spend Time – If you’re already being doing it, that’s great. If not you need and it does not mean that you watch television together. It is about spending quality time together. About taking a walk together or playing a game or reading together.

Avoid Rewarding – We always tend to offer lucrative rewards as parents to children many a times to get them doing what we want like getting good marks, or winning a quiz or race. But, ideally this is not the way to do it. It is not only a burden on you in terms of money but you are also putting your child into a habit or raised expectations from you. Occasional gifts are fine none the less.

Avoid Punishments – It’s common for parents to get angry when kids do not listen or throw tantrums of do something wrong. Many of us resolve such matter either by giving time outs or punishments. A better idea is to make them understand that what they did wasn’t acceptable and should not be repeated.

Avoid Anger – Children observe elders and imitate them. So, if you want your child to be calm in anger, you need to do that too.

Well, this new year ring in the new and ring out the old, change yourself first and see the change in your children.

Be it snakes and ladders, ludo, business or games like carom and chess, board games can be your sure saviors for long hours. Most of the children love them and would immediately agree to participate. More so if they see you are their company they would be more than happy to do so.

It’s not a new that it ain’t easy to ask a kid to take care of their own teeth. Furthermore, if they have braces it’s even more difficult. Here are few tips on taking care of your child’s braces if he or she has one.

BRUSH TWICE AFTER MEALS

Before brushing your child’s teeth you need to remove the elastic or rubber bands around the braces.

Us a soft bristled or power tooth brush to clean the teeth under the wires as well as the gums

Brush slowly and gently tooth by tooth in circular and back and forth motion

Brush the teeth at an angle of 45 degree where the gums and teeth meet

Rinse properly so that all the food particles are removed.

FLOSS DAILY

Oral routine mostly involves brushing teeth twice a day to the maximum. But one of the important teeth care routines include flossing daily. Using a floss threader in order to pull it out from under the braces is a good idea. Another good alternative is trying out thin interdental cleaning brushes.

AVOID HARD CHEWS

Cleaning braces isn’t as easy as cleaning teeth so better to avoid eating foods that damage your braces or make cleaning a task. Hence avoid hard candies and sticky food so as to keep your braces away from harm’s way and do away with cleaning hassles.

GO FOR REGULAR CHECKUPS

Braces need to be adjusted on a regular basis and hence you need visiting a dentist is important. Due to adjustments, you may experience pain or discomfort for some time. So, you need to brush teeth carefully and if you find any kind of damage you need to check it up with a dentist.
